  • We provide epilepsy awareness training to JEC standard which is run by our adult epilepsy nurses and Paediatric epilepsy nurse (Poole only).

Course Content

This course provides an understanding of Epilepsy Awareness to JEC standard, and is run by one of the Epilepsy Nurses.
  •  What is epilepsy?
  • Causes
  • How a diagnosis is made
  • Types of seizures (with reference to current classification of the ILAE)
  • Treatment with anti-epileptic medication and side effects
  • First aid
  • Status epilepticus
  • Psychosocial issues for people with epilepsy, including cultural issues
  • Sources of information and support for people with epilepsy, their families and carers

09.30 – 12.30 at St Mary's Longfleet Church Centre (100 yards on the opposite side of the road from Poole Hospital)
Please allow ample time for parking and aim to arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session. There is limited parking on site. Alternative parking can be found in the hospital multi-storey opposite but this can also get very busy. Please consider car share or public transport if at all possible. Late arrivals may not be admitted.  

Dorchester

Please allow ample time for parking and aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the session. There is no parking on site but a pay and display car park is opposite although this can get very busy as well. Late arrivals may not be admitted.

Regular Price £60pp - Free to all NHS employees!

Any cancellation made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full rate of £60


Please note that all these sessions are on the same dates as Buccal Midazolam Training so you could attend both sessions.
